This 1950s Lilli Ann jacket is made of "silk mohair worsted" loomed in Paris - what a dream! And the classic Lilli Ann typeface is so cute.
Old Jantzen tags are fucking cute. I love their diving lady logo. This tag was from an adorable sweater I sold a few years ago. It had short sleeves and was made of wool. I've owned and sold a few short sleeved sweaters over the years, and if anyone can tell me how to wear them comfortably, I'll laugh in your face, because it isn't possible!
WELCOME to Really Cute Tops!
Amidst the apocalyptic “vibes” of 2017, we have decided to start a fashion blog, where we’ll discuss the state of fashion, lifestyle, what we were wearing in the year 2000. Ten years ago, Mary started Rip it to Shreds!, a fashion blog that was critical (often overly so!) of the day’s current trends, and this blog will be kind of like that. We have both always had a fascination with fashion, and we envision Really Cute Tops as a place to explore our love, hate, love-hate, like, and totally meh feelings about clothes, style, feminism, aesthetics, design, politics, and the intersection of all these things.
WHY “Really Cute Tops”?
A TALE OF TWO TALES
Mary: The origin of the name comes from when Simone was helping me clear out my closet, and randomly demanded to know if I had any “really cute tops” to wear with a certain item, in tone that suggested she seriously doubted that I did. (Maybe you had to be there, but we think it has a certain ring to it.)
Simone: Okay so honestly I thought that this name came about from us going to forevs 21 (remember when it was fun to go to forever 21, and we would just go in there and wander around for like an hour exclaiming at all the fugly crap, but then also sometimes you would find something cute? Seriously though, man, that was our jam. Also, that was like 10 years ago, and now I am an old hag.) and me exclaiming over some REALLY! Cute! TOPS! But I bet your memory is more accurate, because screaming REALLY CUTE TOPS quickly became a major in-joke between us and I have yelled it so many times I honestly can’t remember the actual first time I said it. KNOW THIS, DEAR READER: I know that the first time I said it I was DEAD SERIOUS, and that’s why it was so fucking funny.
WHAT IS Really Cute Tops?
Mary and Simone are gonna write some hard-hitting, actually-researched fashion posts, while also providing our readers with a smattering of fun stuff like pictures of cool vintage fashion labels, surreptitiously-snapped pix of fashion victims ON THE STREET, rants about “kids these days with their terrible 90s clothes I was there in the actual 90s so I should know”, and also maybe some stuff about sewing, body image, and existing in the realm of “plus size”. Basically, you should stay tuned - we'll be putting up new stuff every week, and we have a lot up our (impeccably tailored) sleeves for you to enjoy!
